She is such a beauty. I can see her personality through these photos and through your bright & crisp descriptions. I will admit, though, I am one of those owners who rarely leashes her pup. My guy--a wary senior at 15--would most likely take a wide berth around Toot and instead jaunt up to your smiling face, asking for a treat! I, too, have called out many times "it's fine, he's friendly..." but I appreciate that is not always the sum total of the experience. Thank you for the creative reminder that it takes two to tango!
Lots of dogs off leash are absolutely lovely…they generally are coupled with equally lovely humans and are willing to be casual in the circumstances. It isn’t off leash that is the worry, more the off leash and with completely out of control humans that end up with less than happy results! 🤣
Awesome piece. My dog experienced some kind of trauma in her former life, and is never fine with another dog approaching her. I usually end up calling ahead that she isn't friendly to get the point across quickly - but I always cringe as she is friendly, just not with other dogs :)
Ah, the joys of dog walking. I have one who can never be off leash unless there are 2 miles of empty beach around us and an another who sticks by my side but I won’t let him off leash because he’s what I’ve labeled as an “aggressive greeter” which can be terrifying as he runs at your dog at 60 miles an hour just to be there quickly to say hello. Toots seems like a sweetie and I think keeping her on leash is a security for both of you just like it is for me and my doggos.
"Not to worry, my dog is fine" or "It's okay, he/she's friendly!" as the dog races up... I know it well! I usually find myself saying, "Yes, but mine's not!"
Love Toots, she seems to be coming along really well. She is most beautiful.
Yes, welcome to dog walking in North Saanich. I try to go where no one else goes. I keep Dulce on a leash most of the time, she is good off leash but she is a jumping greeter. If people ask if she is friendly I usually say no. But she makes a liar out of me by straining at the end of the leash and wagging her rear end and tail, eager to say hello. Loves people more than other dogs !!

Such a beautiful dog...she's doing so well.

And oddly, people don’t seem to be worried about that possibility!
I know!
